FUSION-WELDED
From our high-quality pipe, angle joints are precut, precision-planed and
fused at a precise temperature and table pressure. Laboratory tests and
actual field installations prove, without a doubt, this method to be superior
in hydrostatic strength and angle stability. The resulting weld is stronger
than the pipe itself.
Finished dimensions and angular accuracy are held to strict quality control
tolerances, ensuring a problem-free design and field installation by the end user.
TEES & WYES
Freedom's tees and wye outlets are hydraulically extruded, using custom-engineered sizing plugs which are
pulled through heated openings in the fitting body, then water cooled. The completed process achieves
exact-sized openings, precise angles and maximum bonding area for securing the branch by solvent-weld.
Overlap of the PVC material at this point creates greater strength and stress point durability.
RIEBER JOINTS
A state-of-the-art, locked in gasket is formed into the fitting during the belling process, ensuring exact bell
dimensions for perfect fit. Foreign materials cannot penetrate the gasket area where leakage can occur.
Because the gasket is permanent, it cannot roll or become dislocated during installation. Specify Rieber
joints for trouble-free connections.

FIBERGLASS REINFORCEMENT
Some Freedom Pressure Fittings are manufactured by reinforcing the fitting with a combination of fiber-
glass layers, designed to maximize the multidirectional strength, along with tensile layers, which provide
flexural strength. The combination of Freedom's PVC fitting and fiberglass technologies merge, creating a
superior fitting which, ultimately, exceeds the strength of the pipe with which it's designed to be used.

SEWER PIPE'
All Freedom products are produced with high quality
PVC (poly vinyl chloride) resin conforming to ASTM
D1784 with a cell classification of 12364-C.
Freedom gravity sewer pipe is manufactured and
tested to meet or exceed requirements of ASTM
D3034. Gaskets are factory installed Rieber joint
systems designed to ensure joint tightness and
trouble-free installation. SDR 35 has a minimum
pipe stiffness of 46; SDR 41 's stiffness is 28; and
SDR 26 is 115, according to ASTM test D2412.
Gravity sewer pipe is available in a 13-foot laying
length. The bell is an integral part of the pipe. SDR
35 is available in solvent-weld bell, with 4" and 6"
sizes available in 1 a-foot overall lengths.

Flow: PVC pipe has a smoother manning flow coefficient than
other materials of N-0.009, allowing flatter grades or smaller
diameter pipe.
Corrosion and Abrasion Resistance: PVC pipe resists
corrosive soils and gases usually generated by sewage. In
addition, PVC is generally resistant to abrasion often
encountered in the use of pipe cleaning tools.

Freedom Manufactures 4" through 12" IPS-sized SDR21 (200PSI) pressure-rated gasketed PVC pipe,
made from materials conforming to ASTM D1784. Carrying a cell classification of 12454-8, our pipe is suit-
able for potable water systems and other pressure applications per ASTM D2241 and has been tested and
certified by NSF. Gaskets are factory installed Rieber joints designed to ensure joint tightness and trouble-

Freedom manufactures 4"-12" AWWA C900 water pipe in class 150, DR-18, and it is listed with
Underwriters Laboratories and NSF STD 61. We also manufacture 16" C905 pipe in DR-18 and DR-25.
Each piece is hydrostatically tested during manufacturing. All PVC compound used in the production of
C900 & C905 meets the requirements of cell classification 12454-8 as specified in ASTM D-1784. The
compound is also tested and certified by NSF under STD 61 for Drinking Water System Components.

SCHEDULE 40 DWV PIPE
Freedom Plastics, Inc. manufactures high quality dual-marked Schedule 40/DWV listed with NSF and con-
forming to both ASTM D1785 and ASTM D2665 standards in sizes 1-1/4" through 12". In addition, sizes 1/2",
3/4", 1", 14", 16" and 18" Schedule 40 ASTM D1785 are available in 20' lengths only, PE or solvent weld bell.
Plain-End (PE) Material: Sizes 1 1/2" through 6" are available in 10 and 20-foot lengths, and 1/2", 1 1/4",
8", 1 0", 12", 14", 16" and 18" available in 20-foot lengths only.
Solvent-weld Bell End Material: Sizes 4", 6", 8", 1 0", 12", 14", 16" and 18" diameters are also stocked in

SCHEDULE 80 DWV PIPE
Freedom Schedule 80 is manufactured in dark gray, tested and certified by NSF and in accordance with
ASTM standard D1785. Available in sizes 1/2" through 12", this product is carefully produced and closely
checked along each step of the manufacturing process to assure the close tolerances and high quality
material that the end-user demands. 6", 8", 1 0" and 12" diameters are available in solvent weld bell.
Loading information: All sizes of Schedule 80 can be purchased in broken pallet quantities at no extra
charge. 1/2",3/4",1",1 1/4",10",12",14" and 16" Schedule 40 pallets may also be broken at no extra charge.

PERFORATED PIPE
Freedom PVC perforated pipe is available in standard perforation configurations and pipe diameters as
illustrated. Alternate perforation configurations and PVC pipe grades are available upon request. Freedom's
Highway Underdrain perforation pattern meets ASTM F758 and AASHTO M278 specifications. ASTM F758
specifications require a pipe stiffness of PS46. AASHTO M278 specifications require pipJ3 stiffness of PS50
requiring a special compound formulation available upon request. Freedom offers perforated PVC pipe in a
variety of material grades, performance characteristics, perforation patterns and diameters.
PVC COEX-FOAM CORE PIPE
A more cost efficient alternative for drain, waste and vent applications, listed with NSF conforming to ASTM
F891 for non-pressure DWV applications. Available in 1 1/2",2",3",4" and 6" diameters in 10 and 20-foot
lengths: 4" and 6" are also available in solvent weld bell in 10-foot lengths.
DEFLECTION & INSTAllATION
PVC pipe is subject to varying degrees of deflection depending on such factors as degree of compaction
of surrounding soils, class and d'ensity of the soil as defined in ASTM 02321 and the depth of burial.
PVC pipe is designed to withstand vertical deflection of more than 30% before failare occurs. With this
in mind, Freedom sewer pipe should be designed for a long-term deflection of 7.5% allowing for a 4:1
safety factor and maintaining joint integrity and still allowing for entrance of cleaning tools and service
connections.
Bedding: Freedom PVC gravity sewer pipe should be installed in accordance with ASTM 02321; the
trench bottom should be stable and free of large stones and other foreign objects. Bedding materials
should provide uniform longitudinal support under the pipe.
Backfill: Backfill material should be worked under the sides of pipe (from the bed to the springline) to
provide satisfactory support under the haunches of the pipe and then be compacted from the pipe wall
to the side of the trench. Initial backfill should then be hand placed a minimum of 6" over the top of the pipe.
Precautions should be taken to ensure that no large stones, crushed rock, frozen debris or any other
damage or abrasion-causing material is contained in the backfill. The balance of the backfill may be
machine placed and should be properly compacted.
Service Connections: Connections to manholes should be made with manhole adapters, waterstops
or other approved methods. Do not attempt to grout the pipe directly to concrete; make all service
connections with approved wye or tee fittings. If saddle wyes or tees are used, stainless steel bands
are necessary.
TESTING AFTER INSTAllATION
Accepted requirements recommend pressurizing a manhole to manhole section to 5.0 PSI; not permitting
a drop below 3.0 PSI as shown on chart below.

Additional To Note: If prevailing ground water is above the sewer line being tested, an air pressure
correction is required. In this case, the air pressure must be increased 0.433 PSI for each foot the water
level is above the invert of pipe.
Any plugs or caps placed on branches for testing purposes should be blocked to avoid blow-off.
Internal test pressure should not exceed 10.8 PSI - Infiltration or extraction should not exceed 50 gallons
per inch diameter per mile per day.

AMERICAN FLOW CONTROL A
SERIES 2500 RESILIENT WEDGE VALVE
Fusion Bonded Epoxy
The Series 2500 valve is fully epoxy
coated both on the interior as well as
the exterior, The fusion bonded coating
is applied prior to assembly so that even
the bolt holes and body-to-bonnet
flange surfaces are fully epoxy coated,
Triple O-ring Stem Seals
This valve features triple O-ring
stem seals. Two O-rings are located
above and one O-ring is located
below the thrust collar. The lower two
O-rings provide a permanently sealed
lubrication chamber that will make the
valve easier to operate over a longer
period of time, The upper O-ring
assures that sand, dirt or grit cannot
enter the valve to cause damage to
the lower O-rings, This is especially
important for buried and sewage ser-
vice applications,

water working pressure, All ferrous
components shall be ductile iron,
Valves 4"-16" shall be in full compli-
ance with AWNA C515. The words
"0.1." or "Ductile Iron" shall be cast on
the valve or stamped on a perma-
nently attached corrosion resistant
metal tag, The wedge shall be ductile
iron encapsulated with nitrile rubber
(2"-12" sizes) or SBR rubber (14"-30" sizes).
The wedge shall be symmetrical
and seal equally well with flow in either
direction,

Bolting materials shall develop the
physical strength requirements of ASTM
A307 and may have either regular
square or hexagonal heads with
dimensions conforming to ANSI
B 18.2,1, Metric size, socket head cap
screws therefore are not allowed.
Operating nut shall be constructed
of ductile iron and shall have four flats
at stem connection to assure even
input torque to the stem.
All gaskets shall be pressure ener-
gized O-rings.
Stem shall be sealed by three
O-rings. The top two O-rings shall be

No Flat Gaskets
The body-to-bonnet and bonnet-
to-bonnet cover seals are pressure
energized O-rings. This eliminates the
need for excessive bolt loading which
is required by designs that use flat gas-
kets, The O-rings are reusable which
eliminates down time during any
needed repair,
The Series 2500 Resilient Wedge
Gate Valve is furnished in configura-
tions that are listed by Underwriters
Laboratories, Inc, and approved by
Factory Mutual Research Corp,
replaceable with valve fully open and
while subject to full rated working pres-
sure, O-rings set in a cartridge shall not
be allowed.
Valve shall have thrust washers
located with (1) above and (1) below
the thrust collar to assure trouble-free
operation of the valve,
All internal and external surfaces of
the valve body and bonnet shall have
a fusion bonded epoxy coating, com-
plying with ANSI/AWWA C550, applied
electrostatically prior to assembly.

All A. Y. McDonald Curb Boxes and Accessories are coated inside and out.
All A.Y. McDonald Mfg. Co. curb boxes telescope one foot. Lengths shown are listed at the
maximum extended length. We recommend that the length of curb box used for a specific bury
be six inches longer than final grade. Example: If final grade is 5 foot, we recommend a 5 1/2
foot maximum extended length curb box. This will allow 611 for ground movement in either direc-
tion (down because of the ground settling or up because of frost heave).
The "Arch" in the Base Casting covers the Curb Stop without being
mechanically connected. When required, the Shut-off Rod is attached
to the Tee Head of the Curb Stop and remains in place in the Curb
Box. The top of the shut-off Rod is forged in a manner that centers
the top of the Rod in the Upper Section of the Curb box.
Shut-off Rods are furnished as standard on Curb Boxes with 111 Upper
Sections, but are available separately for use with larger Upper
Sections.
All A.Y. McDonald Curb Boxes telescope one foot.
Minneapolis Pattern Curb Boxes have female threads machined into
the bottom of the base casting that screw onto the male threads on
top of all Minneapolis pattern Curb Stops. Threading the Curb Stop
into the Curb Box gives a unified valve/box assembly. This arrange-
ment assures their alignment.
Shut-off Rod information listed above is also true when used with
Minneapolis Pattern Curb Boxes.
The charts below identify size of threads in base casting of Curb
Boxes and at top of Curb Stops.

The 2000PY mechanical joint
restraint is the fastest and most economi-
cal method of restraining PYC pipe to
mechanical joints. Now the need f;x
costly concrete thrust blocks and
corrodible steel tie rods is eliminated. It
can be used in straight alignment or at
the pre-set deflection recommended for
the mechanical joint.
The 2000PV was the first PVC
joint restraint to be tested to llNI-B-
13, Underwriters Laboratories, and
Factory Mutual.

UNI-B-13 "Recommended Standard
Pelformance Specitkation for Joint
Restraint Devices fix use with Polyvinyl

EBAA Iron starTed manufacturing joint restraint
products for I've pipe in the early 1980s, The tesling
of cady prototypes of various configurations of
restraints on large diameter I'Ve pipe indicated that a
restraint device lntist be capable of consistently and
reliably gripping the pipe, if not, the restraint can
slip under pressure, resulting in sudden itnpact, and
cause the pipe to bursc'Armed with this background
knowledge and an appreciation f()r the capabilities of
pve pipe, Ell/\!\ purPOSefllJly deviated from what
many in the industry once considered to be the "only"
way to grip I've pipe. This led to the development of
the Series 2000PV restraint,
The design of the 2000PV incorporates the
gripping mechanism into the design of the mechani-
cal joint gland and utilizes a simple two-part assembly
process, The first step involves assembling the joint
the same as any standard mechanical joint. The
assembly procedure we recommend is that estab-
lished in A'W\VA c600, The second is the actuation
of the restrainL

The design philosophy behind the 2000PV joint
restraint is that the pipe with the restraint should be
capable of being tested to the same minimum require-
ments of the pipe alone, In doing so, the restraint is
shown to have no detrimental effect on the pipe and
will have the same pressure rating and safety factor as
the pipe on which it is used, To that end the 2000PV
has ben subjected to hundreds of static and cyclic
pressure tests to demonstrate the performance and
reliabiJity of the restraint.
One of the primary tests of pve pipe is its
quick burst strength. For pipe meeting the require-
ments ofAWWA C-900, AWWA C-905,andAST:\1224L
the minimum quick burst requirement for the hoop
stress is 6/fOO psi. For DRI8 pipe that pressure is 755
psi,
The second test is a "ustained pressure test at
a stress of 11200 psi. Again for DR18 pipe that
pressure is 500 psi
Third, a conservative cyclic pressure surge
design for the pipe exists in the form of the
Vinson Equation. The 2000PV restraint has been
tested to over one million cycles to the peak pressures
predicted by the Vinson Equation for that number of
cycles.

Since tbe large diameter 2000PV is used
with only one pipe diameter, there are no spacers as
used with the 4"-12" 2000PVseries.
The large diameter 2000PV restraints have
been tested to pressures exceeding the minimum
quick burst pressure requirements for the pipe
shown in the table, and have the same pressure
ratings as the pipe.

This series is a split, serrated
restraint for C-900 PVC pipe
bells. It is composed of a
serrated restraint ring that is
assembled on the spigot and a
split bell that is assembled
behind the bell. The rings are
made of ductile iron. Available
in 4" through 12" sizes.
The Megaflange'0 flange adapter
is a field-adaptable, restrained
flanging system. The MegafIange
adapter has a restraint ring and a
gasket ring to give the maximum
amount of flexibility during and
after installation. It is available
for use on PVC pipe in the 3"
through 2.4" sizes. It can also be
used on ductile iron in all sizes
and on steel in some sizes.
Series 2500
This series is a split, serrated
restraint for C-907 PVC fitting
bells. The assembly and com-
ponents are similar to the 1600
Series, Available in 4",6" and 8"

Series 2800
This series is a solid ring
harness for use on C-905 PVC
pipe bells. It is composed of a
wedge action restraint ring that
is assembled on the spigot, and
a bell ring that is
behind the pipe bell. Available

EBAA-SearM Gasket
This is an improved mechani-
cal joint gasket designed to
combine the ease of assembly of
the mechanical joint with the
sealing capabilities of the push-on
joint. The EBAA-Seal gasket can
be split and used with the
2000SV to repair existing me-
chanical joint problems. Avail-
able in 4" through '48" sizes.

pve pipe. The .j" through I 2" size may be used on
both C-900 and IPS PVC pipe. Check to see if the
spacers under the screws are in place. Jf the pipe is
C-900, proceed with spacers in pJace. If the pipe is
IPS OD, remove ~he spacers. Since the 3" and the
J 4" through 24" restraints are only used with one pipe
diameter, no spacers are used.

by brushing both the gasket and the plain end with
soapy water or an approved pipe lubricant meeting
the requirements of A NSIIA\V\VA C 111/A21.11 just
prior to slipping the gasket onto the plain end lix
joint assembly. Place the gland on the plain end \vith
the lip extension toward the plain end, followed by
the gasket.
3. Insert th~.J!iv..~_jntQ.the ~oc~et and press the
gasket firmly and evenly into the gasket recess. Keep
the joint straight during assembly.
4. Push the gland toward the socket and center it
around the pipe with the gland lip against the gasket,
I!.lsert bolts -,!n.<l!1at1(!.!ight~n n\!t~. Make delkc-
tion after joim assembly but before tightening bolts.
5. Tighten the bolts to the normal range of bolt
torqu.~(45.60 ft-'.l.12s. for .3."J5.::.2.9.JJ. Ibs. for 4"
through_24". 100-120 ft. Ibs. for 30" anQ._.16.::2
while at all times maintaining the same distance
between the gland and the face of the flange at all
points around the socket. This can be done by partially
tightening the bottom bolt first, then the top bolt, then
the bolts at either side, and finally the remaining bolts.
Repeat the process until all bolts are within the appro-
priate range of torque. The use of a torque-indicating
wrench 'will help this procedure.

torque limiting heads twist off. The screws may

reassemble the restraint, follow the previolls instruc-
tions. In the absence of the torque-limiting nuts,
tighten all screws to a torque range of 60 to 80ft, Ibs.
If the 2000PV is removed from the pipe, be sure that
all of the screws, spacers (if required), and wedges are
in place before the restraint is reassemhled.

Mechanical joint restraint shall be incorporated
into the design of the follower gland. The restraint
mechanism shall consist of a plurality of individually-
actuated gripping surbces to maximize restraint ca-
pability. Glands shall be manufactured of ductile iron
conforming to ASTM A536-80.
The gland shall be such that it can replace the
standardized mechanical joi;1t gland and can be used
with the standardized mechanical joint bell conform-
ing to ANSI/AWWA C11l!A21.11 and ANSl/AWWA
CI53/A21.53 of latest revision. Twist off nuts, sized
same as tee-head bolts, shall be used to insure proper
actuating of restraining devices.
The restraining glands shall have a pressure rat-
ing equal to that of the pipe on which it is used. The
restraining glands shall have been tested to U0il-B-13-
92, be listed by Undervvriters Laboratories, and be
approved by Factory MutuaL The restraint shall be
the EBAA Iron Series 2000PV or approved equal.
Sizes 4" through 12" arc listed by Cndenvriters
Laboratories, Inc., category HJKF "Fittings, Retainer
Type," with a deflection angle of five degrees when
used on liL-listed, Class 150 PVC pressure pipe and a
LIL-listed appurtenance. The listing number is EX2836.
Sizes 4" through 12" arc approved by Factory :Vlutual
for use on approved DR18 PVC pipe and mechanical
joint appurtenances. The 2000PV restraint exceeds
all requirements of CNI-B-13-92.

integral bell coupler which meets ASTM 0-3139 and utilizing the gasket sealing system meeting the specification
