Explore Your Parks Night
- May 17t" event was a good turnout. For future reference, we need to make sure that food vendors who
participate provide enough food for the entire event; Space Aliens ran out after 45 minutes. Committee
discussed changing to a different date with hopes for better weather, but decided to stick with third
week of May: people are familiar with current timing, and other competition comes from athletics,
graduation, high school awards night, Memorial Day holiday weekend and Albertville Friendly City Days.
Four Seasons Park sign
- Committee approved a new sign for Four Seasons Park, same style as has been recently installed at
Winter Park; $846 installed by city with city's posts. Sign will be ordered and installed later this summer,
closer to the driveway with landscaping. Tim has "little" Winter Park sign ready to install.
Winter Park gazebo
- Bids for a shelter at Winter Park are $19,923 (Flanagan Sales) and $14,780 (Midwest Playscapes).
Shelter will come out of building budget. Design will match existing equipment's green roof and brown
posts. Parks committee approved the plan for the shelter, Tim will ask for gazebo to go on agenda for
next council meeting.
Winter Park basketball court
- Committee approved painting basketball court at Winter Park. Combining this with already -approved
plan to paint the new court at Lions -Central Park will reduce the cost to paint the Winter Park court.
Work at both courts is expected to be completed this summer.
Oakside Park horseshoe pits
- Committee explored removing the horseshoe pit at Oakside Park last year but decided let it go another
year. Despite continued maintenance by city staff, weeds and grass growth indicate the pit has not been
used in a long time. Committee approved removing the horse shoe pit and the fence that surrounds it.
Miscellaneous
- City Council approved trail improvements that include overlay in Four Seasons Park and trail
completion along Co. Rd. 18 near the high school. Tim is looking into adding power at Four Seasons Park.
- Parks Board approved installation of a sign at Memorial Park sign in order to identify the park and
explain the park's intent to park users. Committee's understanding is that the sign will come at no cost
to the city.
- Deer fence was removed from perimeter of Winter Park that was originally installed to protect a
resident's fence. City will remove sod and lay wood chips around adjoining trees.
- Youth hockey has asked for permission to use land south of the STMA arena so it can install an outdoor
rink at no cost to city for installation and maintenance.
