Attendees: Johnny Vetsch, Tim Guimont, Andy Swanson, Larry Boller, Sharon Oakvik, Sandy Greninger,
Alan Brixius, Adam Nafstad, FYCC coordinator Sarah Hansen, LeRoy Berning
1.Westwind Park
The City received a $150,000 (matching) grant from the MnDNR to rehabilitate Westwind Park.
It’s unknown whether the Westwind Park rehab will be a 2017 or 2018 project. There was
discussion and general agreement to leave the upper (north) playground area as a grass area
and concentrate play equipment on lower (south) area. This grass area could be for pick-up
games, Frisbee, etc. Park plan would include all new play equipment rather than rehabbing
some of the existing equipment as was previously discussed. Committee recommends shelter
have wood or mock wood pillars to maintain the woodsy theme that has been approved. There
was a recommendation and general agreement among committee members to retain an area of
sand within the wood mulch area that would perhaps include a digger or two.
2.Central Lions Park
There was discussion about the current plan for Central Lions Park. Discussion led to
recommendation for Alan Brixius to draw and present plans consisting of a curb cut widened to
12 feet for easier access from Main Ave., shift access point to back of depot to make room for
th
Ferris wheel and carousel during AFCD, look at making 58 St. a one way (west), pull center
plaza south, plan for a 6-foot stage on the south side of the depot building, eliminate paver area
between caboose and depot and eliminate the 8-foot path at the west end of the area. Also
consider lighting for the area.
