Attendees: Johnny Vetsch, Tim Guimont, Andy Swanson, Sharon Oakvik, FYCC coordinator Sarah

1.2018 Parks Night
May 18, 6-8 pm
There was discussion about who will staff which park and other potential features; all details
below are preliminary:
Winter – Sharon and Lions, A.F.D.
Villas – Andy Swanson and Foxtailers
Four Seasons – Tim, Andy’s Pizza, How to prune trees and possibly seedling giveaways
Westwind – Larry Boller, displays to show the new Westwind park, Emma’s Express
Linwood – Johnny Vetsch, popcorn, jet truck
Oakside – Sarah Hansen, sheriff?
-LeRoy to provide cards advertising Central Park events to hand out at every park. LeRoy will
line up Andy’s, Emma’s, El Bamba, Lions and possibly a beverage for the parks (orange
drink?). Tim to contact Allied about recycling. Larry to contact WCSD about attending. Sarah
to contact Gordy at Coborn’s, Larry will contact the University of Minnesota about
pollinators for Westwind.
2.Sarah Hansen
Committee recommends to appoint Sarah Hansen to the parks committee.
3.Westwind Park
-Playground equipment has been purchased, getting bids for boardwalk, construction plans
are being drawn. City received matching grants from MnDNR to fund the project.
Construction could start by mid-summer with completion by fall, but actual timeline has not
been established.
-Larry will apply for free or discounted seed mixtures through the Seed A Legacy Pollinator
Habitat Program.
-Tim will check into donating used equipment from the park; League of Minnesota Cities
website.
4.Central Park
Barthel property – City Council meeting minutes show that some members of the Council are
apprehensive of purchasing the Barthel property. Having already recommended that the city
purchase the property, the Committee recommends that it and the Council have a joint meeting
to discuss Central Park plans and visions.
Next meeting: March 26 at 7:00.
