Albertville Parks Committee meeting minutes
8-27-18
Attendees: Tim Guimont, Larry Boller, FYCC coordinator Sarah Hansen, Adam Nafstad, Johnnie Vetsch,
Andy Swanson, Sharon Oakvik, AFD Chief Eric Bullen, Samara Postuma (city communications)
1.Westwind Park
-Preliminary plan for a shelter was presented by Adam; plan was prepared by Earl Bauman.
Group is OK with the general design and 6/12 roof pitch.
-Park site has been leveled and Adam anticipates boardwalk contractor will start in early
September; concrete early-mid September. A park concept sign will be posted at the site to
make people aware of the scheduled improvements.
2.Central Park
-Preliminary drawings of the farmers market building were presented by LeRoy. Adding 8
feet to east end, 16 feet to west end and a cupola on the roof. Project timing will likely be
October 2018.
-RR crossing sign is available, committee is in favor of acquiring the sign. Next step is to
determine specific location; likely near the depot building.
3.2019 Albertville Centennial Celebration
-Logos: Committee is in favor of further tweaks and color combinations of design 6 – a round
design that says “Albertville Centennial” and subtly includes elements of the city’s logo.
-Event: Sept. 21, 2019. Possible activities/features of the event may include: Fireworks,
family friendly music, BYOB, food, balloons, ice cream social/root beer floats, games, Villains
day game, old trains, horse and buggy rides for photos, antique tractor show, era
reenactment performance, kiddie trains, classic cars, people in costume. Further planning by
the committee will happen next month.
-Art piece: Mr. Kasper unable to do it. Adam has reached out to a person recommended by
Mr. Kasper who lives in Eveleth but they have not talked yet.
