2018-11-26 Parks Committee Minutes Albertville Parks Committee Meeting Minutes Albertville City Hall (5959 Main Ave NE, Albertville, MN 55301) th Monday, November 26, 2018 Present at Meeting: Adam Nafstad, Tim Guimont, Samara Postuma (City Communications), Sarah Hansen (FYCC), LeRoy Berning, Marlene Zachman (Resident), Carol Gore (Women of Today), and Charles Yolzerland (Boy Scouts). Not present: Sharon Oakvik, Larry Boller, John Vetsch, and Andy Swanson The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. on November 26, 2018 at the Albertville City Hall. Introductions were made. Albertville Centennial Celebration Progress Update: Nafstad reported that the date for the Centennial Celebration on September 21, 2019. The committee has spent time brainstorming possible activities. The focus now is to narrow in on activities and to begin formulating a schedule. Activities discussed are music, food, ice cream, root beer, baseball, trains, photo op, horse and buggy, reenactment, cars, and games. A recognition event may be a part of this celebration. It is a goal to incorporate the schools into the event. Games: The Women of Today will coordinate the games. A letter will be drafted and reviewed that can go out to local businesses and organizations to invite them to host a game. FYCC will do Bingo. The Boy Scouts have an inflatable bow and arrow game that could be used. Vintage Baseball Game: Hansen reported that the St. Croix Baseball Club is an educational program of the Washington County Historical Society that is modeled after the actual St. Croix Baseball Club. The club plays by the rules from 1860 and dress in as close to period uniform as possible. The fee is $100/game. Hansen will contact the St. Croix Baseball Club to check availability. History: Marlene Zachman provided history on the city of Albertville and is planning to contact several people to get more stories. She has written a book that could be helpful for this event. Signage: Banners are desired to advertise the event. Banners could be put on lightposts on Cty Rd 19. A large banners could be placed across Main Avenue and possibly in another area. Berning suggested that the welcome to Albertville signs have the Centennial logo added or be replaced and updated with the Centennial logo. The City will look at concepts and pricing for signage. Marketing: A Facebook page and event will be created for the celebration. Promotional items discussed were window stickers and medallions. A newsletter publication with history, stories, and photos was discussed. The celebration could be in the senior newsletter to advertise the event and to encourage people to share stories of Albertville. A group may to the Legacy and Engelhaus to visit with people and hear their stories. Other Activities: Berning is working on getting a steam engine and working on coordinating a photo of long time Albertville residents to be taken in front of the Depot. th Next meeting: Monday, January 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Albertville City Hall.
