CENTRAL PARK CABOOSE PROJECT This is a nationally recognized initiative to temporarily close streets to automobile traffic, so that people may use them for walking, cycling, dancing, playing, and socializing. Over 2,000 attended last year's event. For more information about these events, please visit www.myfvcc.com In 2012, Albertville adopted its Central Park Master Plan to guide and prioritize future improvements within the park. Part of the master plan is to incorporate a railroad theme to reflect and archive Albertville's history as a railroad community. The railroad elements include a caboose and community building designed to replicate the original Albertville Depot. The Albertville Lions have been working hard on Central Park projects and in January they brought a retired Burlington Northern caboose to Central Park. The Lions have committed to restoring the caboose and over the next year, with the help of local Caboose recently delivered to Central Park professionals, will work to restore the caboose to its original condition. Once restored, the caboose will be open to the public during Friendly City Days, Farmers Markets, Music in the Park, and other events. The park plan ultimately envisions a replica depot, and the caboose, as the Park's centerpiece. The park depot will be designed to replicate the appearance of the original 1880 depot, but to function as a park band shell, a gathering space, and activity space. Over the next few years, the Lions will be seeking donors to help fund the construction of the depot. Please contact City Hall if you are interested in assisting with the City park projects. Do not leave valuables in your vehicles (GPS devices, stereo equipment, cell phones, iPods, purses, laptops, TV/DVD players, tools, garage door opener controllers, etc. All are tempting to would-be thieves). 2. Lock your vehicle (The majority of thefts are preventable if the vehicle is locked). 3. Close your overhead garage doors (Keeping garage doors closed can keep your property safe by limiting visibility from the street and potential thieves). 4. Lock the entrance door(s) to your residences and garages. 5. Call 911 immediately if you see suspicious activity in your neighborhood. W By taking a few simple steps, citizens can significantly reduce their chances of being the victim of a crime.
