Trees maintained by the City are typically located in parks or along City streets in boulevards. Boulevard trees are generally located between the curb and sidewalk or are located within 6-feet from the back of the curb. Trees are trimmed with the goal of creating one central leader and for the lowest permanent branch to be at 14-16 feet above grade. This will make the tree stronger, less prone to wind damage, and also allows for safe pedestrian, car, and truck travel. The goal is easier to meet if pruning starts when the trees are young. However, if the tree is well established it may take several years of pruning. In some cases, as with much older and larger trees, trimming will be focused on removal of dead or broken branches COMPOST SITE The City of Albertville has a compost site that is open seven days a week and available to all residents of Albertville. Accepted Items: The compost area is exclusively used for organic materials which degrade quickly. This includes grass clippings, leaves, mulch, flowers, weeds, sod and garden waste. Bags must be removed when dumping these items. Small trees less than 3" in diameter, branches, brush, bushes and other natural wood products are accepted and need to be placed in a separate wood and brush pile at the site. Residents are asked to sign in each time they visit the compost site. and height clearances for pedestrians and vehicles. If you have any questions regarding a City tree or would like some advice regarding trees on your property, please feel free to call Tim Guimont (Albertville Public Works) at 763.497.3145. I Free Items: Black dirt and wood chips are available at the compost site for Albertville residents. Public Works staff process the compost yearly to create new black dirt. CITY NEWSLETTER SPRING/SUMMER 2014 PROPERTY MAINTENANCE LOCAL BOARD OF APPEALS AND Albertville is fortunate to have the attractive neighborhoods and business districts it does. To preserve and promote our clean and attractive community, here are some City regulations to follow: Lawn and Yard Care — Lawns and boulevards must be mowed regularly so that grass is not longer than 12-inches, and trees and shrubs must be pruned to provide a 12-foot clearance over a sidewalk. Mowing and blowing grass clippings onto the street and dumping clippings along the banks of storm water ponds is not allowed. Landscaping Around Fire Hydrants — Fire hydrants need to be accessible. Fencing, shrubs, landscape ornaments, berms, or other physical obstructions should not be placed within a 5-foot radius of a fire hydrant. Always check with the City prior to doing any work within the public right-of-way (typically 10-feet behind the curb). Off -Street Parking — Parking is not allowed on lawns or boulevards, and vehicles must be parked on a paved surface in residential areas. Vehicles and trailers parked in the driveway cannot block the sidewalk and generally need to be 15-feet from the street. Outdoor Storage — Up to two licensed and operable recreational vehicles (motor homes, boats, trailers, orATV's on trailers) can be stored on residential properties. Storage in a side yard between homes must be at least 2-feet from the property line and on a paved or surfaced area. Storage in the rear yard must be at least 5-feet from all property lines. Please call the City with questions or for more information concerning outdoor storage and/or prior to constructing a paved surface. Trash Bins/Firewood — Trash receptacles and recycling bins should be stored indoors or in the side or rear yard. Firewood for a homeowner's consumption should also be stored in the side or rear yard. EQUALIZATION Wednesday, April 23, 5:30 p.m. at City Hall Each spring, the Wright County Assessor mails a Valuation of Real Property Notice informing property owners of the value and classification of their property. The estimated value represents a reasonable approximation of what your property may sell for in the open market based on market conditions and information relating to your property. If a property owner believes the 2014 estimated market value and/or classification to be incorrect, or has questions regarding the notice, please contact the Wright County Assessor's Office at 763.682.7367. If you are not satisfied with the information provided by the Assessor, you are welcome to attend the Local Board of Appeals and Equalization meeting. The Board will convene at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 5959 Main Avenue NE. The meeting is an opportunity for residents to question and contest the assessed value of their property.
