Friendly City Days, a major fundraiser for numerous community groups, is a celebration of the start of summer. The event covers 5 days, beginning Wednesday with a city wide garage sale and concluding on Sunday with various tournament championship games. Midwest Rides will bring in their Carnival for the weekend with over 30 rides and games for all ages. Throughout the weekend there will be a wide variety of food, and lots of softball, volleyball, baseball, and hockey to watch. As in previous years, there will be a Pork Chop Dinner Friday evening followed by "32 Below", a very popular regional country rock band. Capping off the night, at dusk, there will be a spectacular fireworks display. Saturday will start with a 5k Run, followed by plenty of kids activities. There will be a pedal tractor pull, a clown and magic show, a kiddie parade, and a radio show. Saturday evening, there will be a Spaghetti Dinner followed by Bingo and two live bands. Sunday there will be a Grand Day Parade featuring up to 7 marching bands, followed by the crowning of Miss Albertville and the tournament championship games. If you are interested in getting involved in the planning of Friendly City Days, or volunteering some time, email event organizers at afcd@ci.albertville.mn.us. For more information check out the event website at www.albortvillefriendlycitydays.com SPRING CLEAN UP DAY The annual spring clean up day will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the St. Michael Public Works Facility located at 3150 Lander Avenue NE. from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is for Albertville and St. Michael residents, identification will be checked. There is no charge for batteries, scrap metal, or used oil. Paint and stains will not be accepted. Please visit www.cLalbertville.mmus for a complete price list. FIRE DEPARTMENT AWARDS FLOOD INSURANCE AVAILABLE The City of Albertville has joined over 21,000 communities nationwide that participate in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and are allowed to purchase federally backed flood insurance. As a NFIP participant, Albertville residents now have the ability (should they desire) to purchase flood insurance. For a single-family dwelling, the building coverage limit is $250,000, and the contents coverage is $100,000. Renters can also protect their belongings by purchasing contents coverage. For commercial properties, the building and contents coverage limits are both $500,000. Purchasing and maintaining flood insurance coverage is on a voluntary basis. Residents who are interested in this optional insurance should contact their homeowner insurance agent or provider. SUMP PUMP DISCHARGE Sump pumps are used to remove storm/rain or natural ground water away from your home. While it is easy to forget about these tucked away appliances, many basements and homes are dependent on them to prevent water damage in and around the home. Please make sure your sump pump is properly working and its connections and discharge line are secure and discharging freely to the outside and away from your home. SNOW PLOW DAMAGE If over the course of the winter months, your lawn or mailbox (or other property) was damaged from a City snowplow, please contact Public Works to report the damage at 763-497-3145 and the City will work to provide the necessary repairs. Each year the Albertville Fire Department recognizes the years of service, in five year increments, of its active members. Members with over twenty years of service are recognized annually. The following were recognized at a March 18th City Council workshop by the Mayor and City Council. The Top Caller Award is given to the member who responds to the most calls. This year's recipient has received the award for three consecutive years. The Paul Heinen Above and Beyond Award is given to those who show personal sacrifice and dedication to the department beyond their regular duties. A Certificate of Recognition was given to the Fire Marshall for sacrificing many personal hours to conduct fire inspections to make Albertville a safer place to live and to do business. 5 Years: Firefighter Kyle Anderson Firefighter Dean Eull Firefighter Brad Lawlinger 15 Years: Firefighter Bob Marquette 23 Years: Captain Bill Valerius 31 Years: Firefighter Albert Barthel Paul Heinen Award: Fire Chief Tate Mills 10 Years: Lieutenant Paul Gonsior Firefighter Rob Rich Firefighter Ron Tiernan 22 Years: Firefighter Duane Berning 27 Years: Firefighter Brian Wulff 2012 Top Caller: Firefighter Kyle Anderson Fire Inspection Recognition: Assistant Fire Chief Jay Eull CITY RECEIVES FINANCIAL AWARD The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Albertville by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report for the 2011 fiscal year. The award represents the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment on the part of City staff. The GFOA established the award program to encourage local governments to prepare financial reports that meet the high standards of the program and to demonstrate "a spirit of transparency and full disclosure" in financial reporting.
