SUBJECT: CITY CLERK— CANVAS GENERAL ELECTION RESULTS
RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully requested that the Mayor and Council consider the
following:
MOTION TO: Adopt Resolution No. 2020-031 canvassing the local returns of the November 3
General Election and declaring the results of the election.
BACKGROUND: The City Council serves as the Canvassing Board. The Canvassing Board
must meet no sooner than three (3) days after the election and no later than ten (10) days after the
election and requires at least a quorum of the Board. The Board must review the results for
correctness. If the Board is satisfied that the tabulation of the votes is correct, the Board may
make the results official. Listed below are the unofficial results for the offices of Mayor and
City Council members.

The official results will be available on November 12 and will be presented at the meeting along
with the Resolution.
POLICY CONSIDERATIONS: The Canvassing Board must follow State Statute 205.185
as follows:
Subd. 3. Canvass of returns, certificate of election, ballots, disposition.
(a) Between the third and tenth days after an election, the governing body of a city conducting any
election including a special municipal election, or the governing body of a town conducting the general
election in November shall act as the canvassing board, canvass the returns, and declare the results of the
election.
