LAWN IRRIGATION HANDOUT
REQUIREMENTS
1. Completion of a Building Permit Application.
2. Irrigation systems,for new home construction requires an As-built survey approved
by the City Engineer prior to permit issuance.
3. The City will not authorize the installation of sprinkler heads within the City's
boulevard/right-of-way. When sprinkler heads are installed within the City's
boulevard/right-of-way,the owner will be solely responsible for any damages
resulting from such an installation.
4. Call Gopher State One Call at 651-454-0002, at least 48 hours before you dig.
S. Connect into the water line on the house side of the meter.
6. Lead free solder is required.
7. A ball type gate valve is required to control the irrigation water line.
8. Provide adequate back flow prevention with RPZ (Reduced Pressure Zone), or a
pressure type or vacuum breaker. See attached sheets for diagrams illustrating the
proper methods of installation.
9. Provide a means of draining the system and blowing water from the sprinkler heads
during winter months.
10. All garden hose connections,inside and outside the building,must have a hose
connection vacuum breaker installed. See page 2,fig.1.
11. A garden hose connection is not a legal connection for a lawn irrigation system.
12. An inspection must be scheduled after you have tied into the domestic water line
and have run the piping to the outside with the necessary back-flow prevention
device installed.
13. Properly support all piping and the back flow preventer.
14. It is recommended to add a rain sensor.
Plumbing Contractors doing the installations must be licensed by the state and registered by the
City of Albertville.
