Box 3001 One Convenience Boulevard Ankeny, IA 50021-8045 Re: Proposed Development - Casey's General Store, City of Albertville Dear Mr. Schulze: Per your transmittal letter dated January 13, 2000 we have reviewed the above referenced plan that fronts on CSAH 19 and 57th Street in the City of Albertville. We offer the following comments with respect to access, safety, and other issues. 1. The County is concerned with respect to safety and the operational impacts of this development on CSAH 19 and 57th Street. The development is located in one of the fastest growing areas of the County and as a result the roadways in the area have experienced and will continue to experience increased traffic. The County has taken the position with concurrence from the City that to safely handle traffic for this area for the long-term we want to minimize the number of direct accesses on CSAH 19. Each access point will reduce capacity and decrease safety. The proposed development, with direct access onto CSAH 19, does not conform to the City's and County's understanding of limiting future access locations along CSAH 19. The intersection of CSAH 19 and 57th Street is a major intersection with right-turn and left-turn lanes in place on CSAH 19. Allowing an access on CSAH 19 at the location proposed would compromise the safety and turning movements at this intersection. As a result, we feel that the best location for accessing the proposed development would be entirely from 57th Street. 2. A utility permit (copy enclosed) is required if there will be any work that disturbs the County Highway right-of-way. Please forward a completed utility permit to the attention of Bill Cordell of our office. If you have any further questions concerning this manner please contact me at 612-682-7387.
