2022-05-23 Parks Committee Minutes Albertville Parks Committee meeting 5-23-22
Attendees:Andy Swanson,Terry James, Larry Boller, LeRoy Berning, Lauryn White
1. Explore Your Parks Night
- Event was May 20 at Central Park, 6-8pm.
- Features included Parks Passports,Wright County Sheriff K9,Third Lair skateboard
demonstrations ($500), Fire Department, Republic Services, balloon animal guy(Mark,
$300), plow truck and loader, three prize baskets from FYCC, orange drink,water hot dogs,
chips, Royalty.
Committee feedback:
1. Signage was not very visible, suggest getting new white signs with black letters. And add a
few Franklin rental signs next year.
2. Balloon animal guy was popular. Some people waited at least 15 minutes. Could add
another or maybe a face painter or petting zoo.
3. More signage in park about event features are needed. People did not realize hot dogs
and chips were free.
4. Need a schedule of events
Recommendations for 2023:Tentative date:Thursday May 18 2023; location for 2023 is for
event to be held at 3 parks (one north of freeway, one east of 19 and one west of 19)to spread
out the event; keep essentially the same food at all parks;family entertainment at each park;
communicate event schedule; start planning 2023 event at January meeting; new signs; need
food preppers: Lions, Foxtailers, Shop STMA or Rotary.
Recommended forms of promotion for 2023: social media,water bill, city newsletter, signs, city
website, Crow River News, Franklin signs,AFD calendar ad, FYCC calendar, direct mail; scheduled
Royalty float goes to each park; city staff will need to deliver 8-10 picnic tables to each
participating park; make sure each park has a fresh portable restroom.
2. Elections
Terry accepted nomination to be committee chair; Lauryn accepted vice chair;Andy will
continue as Secretary.
