Project for next year—Central Park Playground Replacement+Splash Park and small play area west of Caboose • Continue work at Central Park is working on getting a bid for concrete (trail, "dance floor" and area adjacent to the pavilion). Intent is for work to happen fall 2022. Committee recommends the following: pursuit of a small,train-themed play structure for area to the west of the caboose; small water feature for area near existing playground; replace existing play structure; add sidewalk to along west side of Land between parking lot and church. • STMA Rotary would like to donate$10,000 to the Central Park playground-equipment must have their name on it The committee proposed putting in a shaded seating area near the skate park with the money that the STMA Rotary is offering to donate. The committee then discussed allowing area businesses and organization to purchase items at the park, such as benches, picnic tables, sun shades. The discussion included pricing and the length of time the for the plaque. The topic will be further discussed at the next meeting. • Budget of$400k to$500k for the playground The proposed budget seems reasonable given the cost of other playgrounds in the area that have recently been replaced. 1 • Update equipment at Central park, more swings, change surfaces from sand/woodchips to mats, more adapted equipment—ADA compliant—include sitting areas with sun shades, benches around the trees The committee is still researching ideas for the updated playground area and an additional play area by the caboose. The idea was raised to combine the small train themed area near the caboose with a water feature. Possibly with a light feature. • Get drawings/survey of area so that we know the size The city was working on getting a survey of the current playground area of central park which will show the location of trees and the size of the area that can be used for planning purposes. Future Projects(wishlist) • Expand Westwind board walk • Shuffle board pads • Parks Photography Contest • Pet waste bags and signage • Ball fields at compost site Next Meeting: September 26, 2022 Minutes recorded and prepared by Terry James 2
