Adjournment Mayor and Council Request for Action May 13, 2024 SUBJECT: ADMINISTRATION – AUTHORIZE HIRING OF MAINTENANCE WORKER (STREETS AND PARKS) POSITIONS RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully requested that the Mayor and City Council approve the following: MOTION TO: Appoint Jerico Siegle and Samuel Maves to the full-time position of Maintenance Worker Level 1 (Streets and Parks), at a starting wage of $32.28 per hour, conditioned on successful completion of a background check. INFORMATION: Due to the retirement of Mike Jenkins and Kyle Anderson leaving to pursue a firefighting career, the City of Albertville has two openings in the Public Works Department. The position was advertised and approximately 29 applications were received and reviewed. Staff interviewed 11 applicants and Jericho Siegle and Samuel Maves are recommended to fill the two Maintenance Worker I positions. Boith Mr. Siegle and Mr. Maves are motivated individuals with good customer services skills and a strong understanding of the public works service. KEY ISSUES: •Staff recommends offering the positions to Jerico Siegle and Samuel Maves. •The starting pay rate for both positions is $32.28 per hour. •Jericho and Samuel will accrue vacation and sick leave per the City’s personnel policy, beginning at 5 days of vacation per year. •It is anticipated that Jericho and Samuel will start on May 28. FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS: The pay range for the position is $32.28 to $36.52 per hour. These are budgeted positions. LEGAL ISSUES: The City Council has the authority to hire qualified personnel. Submitted Through: Adam Nafstad, City Administrator - PWD Documents on File: •Job Description, Position Posting, Application Materials Agenda Page 2 Mayor and Council Request for Action May 13, 2024 SUBJECT: FIRE – AUTHORIZE THE HIRING OF A RESERVE FIREFIGHTER RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully requested that the Mayor and City Council authorize the following: MOTION TO: Authorize the hiring of the following individual for the position of Reserve Firefighter with the Albertville Fire Department: •Matthew Norloff BACKGROUND: The Fire Department began its current hiring process in February 2024. The process has concluded with the request to approve the hiring of the above-named individual to the position of Reserve Firefighter. The applicant has met the requirements as outlined in Section 4.1.3 (Employment Eligibility - Requirements and Process) of the Albertville Fire Department’s (AFD) Standard Operating Policies and Procedures. They have also completed, and successfully passed, the complete AFD hiring process. This process includes, but is not limited to: a.Application b.Initial Interview c.Physical Ability Test d.Reference Checks e.Final Interview f.Conditional Job Offer g. MN BCA Background and Criminal History Checks h.Pre-Employment Medical Exams / Drug Testing i.Pre-Employment Psychological Exams and Interview The AFD is asking for Council authorization for the hiring of one new Reserve Firefighter. If approved by the Council, the new member will be sworn in on Thursday, June 6th, at the Albertville Fire Department. KEY ISSUES: •The current AFD hiring process is ending. •One applicant has successfully completed the AFD hiring process. •If approved by the Council, the new member will be sworn in on Thursday, June 6th, at the Albertville Fire Department. FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS: The costs associated with the hiring process are part of the annual Fire Department Operating budget. The Reserve Firefighter will start as a volunteer, unpaid, member of the Fire Department.
