In May, 2008 the City hosted a meeting with Green Haven residents to discuss with them future
street, water and sewer improvements. Following that meeting the City Council took the
following action:
The City Council directed staff to place the extension of sanitary sewer, water and the
replacement of streets (municipal improvements) into northeastern Albertville on its five
year capital improvement plan. This means that the City will be pursuing municipal
improvements into this area of the City by 2013. Feasibility studies to determine
location, size and cost will likely be directed after 2010. In light of this action, the City
will work with property owners with marginal septic systems to extend their life until
utilities become available. Residents should be aware that over the next few years
preceding municipal improvements, the City will perform minimal street repair. Further,
the City will send an annual reminder to affected properties about the pending project.
The purpose of this letter is three fold. First, the City wants to inform residents of the pending
improvement and allow you time to financially prepare for future assessments. Secondly, to let
you know in the interim, we will work with you to nurse along septic systems and wells that may
be failing. Thirdly, if you are selling your property, please inform new buyers of the City's plans
so there are no surprises for anyone.
The City will likely complete the feasibility study described above in late 2012 or early 2013 and
host another meeting with residents when that information is available.
Please feel free to contact Building Official Jon Sutherland at 763-497-3384 ext 3 if you are
having problems with your septic system. The City's goal is to avoid any unnecessary expense
upgrading septic systems or wells in light of the pending utility project and allow time for others
to maximize their investment in their system. Following the improvement, individual wells can
be used for irrigation purposes.
