The c I ass i f i cat i on of a parce I i s based on the current use of a
property. In this situation, the current use is agricultural even
though the highest and best use would tend to be otherwise.
iThe "Green Acres" law permits certain agricultural properties to
pay property taxes based on agricultural value rather than the
estimated market value.
The property taxes are considerably less on a property with an
agricultural classification receiving "Green Acres" than
commercial/industrial property with taxes based from estimated
market value.
